The programs offered at Wayland Union High School are designed to prepare our students for the challenges of the new world evolving around us. Our high school community strives to be the best academically, athletically, and socially. We have a very caring, student centered faculty devoted to the overall development and enhancement of each individual student. We strive to develop caring relationships in an effort to promote self-confidence within themselves.
Our students are up to the challenge of our very rigorous Michigan Merit Curriculum and our teachers will continue to inspire them and provide them with the best academic support, outstanding fine and performing arts programs, and competitive athletic programs in the area.
Wayland Union Schools has recently partnered with the Van Andel Education Institute to provide inquiry-based professional development to the science faculty at the high school. Inquiry-based science education requires students to act like scientists and uses a hands-on approach. We are privileged to partner with the VAEI in our science instruction.
In 2012, the district launched a 1:1 technology initiative for students in grades 7 – 12. High and middle school students were each issued an iPad this fall. This new technology is being used in a variety of ways to enhance instruction in every subject area.
For 2011-2012, Wayland High School made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in English Language Arts and Mathematics. While we are pleased to have reached this important goal, we are continuously working to improve student achievement in all content areas. We appreciate the continued support of parents, staff and our community in lifelong learning process.
We are proud of our High School and the caring supportive community that we belong to.
