Jeff Salisbury, Board President, was elected May 2010, currently serving a four-year term expiring December 31,2014.  An alumnus of Michigan State University, Jeff retired in 2009 after 29 years in teaching, the last 24 at WUHS where he taught courses in the English Department including Journalism/News Writing, Creative Writing, Desktop Publishing and advised the school newspaper, yearbook, literary magazine, Student Council and SADD. Jeff’s other public service positions included serving on the Wayland Planning Commission, Henika Library Board, Wayland City Council and the Wayland Neighborhood Watch. Jeff enjoys spending time with family and friends, camping at Hungry Horse Campground, reading and family tree research. Jeff and his wife Penny are both originally from Howell (MI) where he served for many years as President of the Howell Public Schools Alumni Association. They live in Wayland and are parents of WUHS alums Mike Salisbury (1987) and Shelly Whitley (1991) and have four grandchildren who will graduate from WUHS in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022.

Theresa Dobry, Board Vice-President, was elected May 2011 and is currently serving a four-year term expiring on December 31, 2016. Theresa lives in Dorr and is married to Steve Dobry who is a 1988 graduate of WUS. Together they have three children who attend Dorr Elementary School. Theresa works part- time as a substitute teacher through PESG. She also provides sales support for Whitey’s Food Systems, Richfield, OH on a part-time basis. She volunteers as Treasurer of the Dorr PTO and helps out in her children’s classrooms. Theresa grew up in Scottville, MI and is a 1990 graduate of Mason County Central High School. After graduation, she was as an assistant middle school track coach and a few years later coached the eighth grade volleyball team at MCC. She earned a B.S. Degree in Office Systems from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan, and has worked at The Dow Chemical Company – Ludington Plant and WMS Sales and Marketing – Grand Rapids.

Tom Salingue, Board Treasurer, was elected to the board in November of 2012 to a four-year term that expires on December 31, 2016. He also served on the board from June, 2012 to November 2012 for a short term appointment. He and his wife Sherry reside in Wayland Township and have two sons, Mitchell and Owen. Tom currently serves as the President of the Wayland Youth Baseball & Softball League.  He is a graduate of Martin High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Western Michigan University.  He owns the Salingue Allstate Insurance Agency in Hastings and has been self employed since 1997.  He enjoys camping with his family, downhill skiing, boating, fishing, and coaching youth sports.

Shelly Whitley, Board Secretary, was elected May 2010, is currently serving a four-year term expiring December 31, 2014.  She resides in Wayland with her husband Aaron and two children, Auston and Maddie, who attend Wayland Union Schools.  She and her husband are both 1991 Wayland graduates.  Shelly earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology with an education minor from Grand Valley State University in 1997.  She is employed at Reno Agency in Wayland as a licensed insurance agent.  She has been a school volunteer for five years, was president of Dorr PTO from 2007 to 2009, is founder and chairperson of the Wayland Neighborhood Watch since 2009 and Director of Dorr Recreation Summer Ball program since 2006.  She is also a member of the Pine Street Family Association and attends Corinth Reformed Church.

Kim Henney, Trustee, was elected to a partial term in November of 2012 that will expire on December 31, 2014.  Kim graduated from Grand Rapids Community College in 2009 with an Associate Degree in Nursing. She is finishing up her Bachelor's degree from Ferris State University in Nursing.  She is employed at Spectrum Health as a Registered Nurse.  Kim resides in Dorr with her husband and four children-two who attend Pine Street Elementary and two who attend Dorr Elementary.  Kim volunteers at a variety of school functions, classroom activities, and field trips.

Nancy Thelen, Trustee, was elected in May of 2007 and re-elected in May of 2011. She is currently serving a four-year term that will expire on December 31, 2016.  In 1987, Nancy graduated from Galesburg-Augusta High School, and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University.  She is employed at the Home Depot and is a fitness instructor at Pulse Fitness in Dorr.  She and her husband, David, have four children attending Wayland Union Schools: Trenton, 8th grade and Haley, 7th grade at the Middle School; Kyle, 5th grade at Pine Street Elementary; and Kennedy, 3rd grade at Dorr Elementary.  Nancy volunteers at  both Dorr and Pine Street Elementary Schools and has been a volunteer coach for AYSO since 2006.

Gary Wood, Trustee, has served on the board since May of 2009
with the term expiring on December 31, 2016.  He is a resident of the City of Wayland.  Gary has 6 children with 3 currently enrolled in our district; one at Pine Street Elementary and two at Hillside Learning Center West in Allegan. Gary is a Senior Project Chemist at TriMatrix Laboratories, Inc in Grand Rapids.  He earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from
Aquinas College. Gary is a member of Wayland United Methodist Church and the Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan.  Gary enjoys spending time with his family along with hunting, fishing and helping out with his kids' sports teams.
