Dorr Elementary School 4159 - 18th Street Dorr, MI 49323 Phone: 616-681-9637 Fax: 616-681-0689 Dorr Elementary houses Young Fives, Kindergarten, First, Second, Third and Fourth Grade students from the Dorr/Moline communities. We also have a level 4 B room for Special Education students. In addition, Dorr has two preschools—an Extended Day Preschool for 4-year-olds and a half-day preschool for three and four year olds. We educate approximately 567 children. Our outstanding staff offer children an environment in which to learn about their world, their community and themselves.
We have three basic goals where we focus our attention and measure outcomes. Our first goal is in Writing. Standards are set and students learn about the writing process, content, style and grammar. Teachers are continually learning about the best practices and methods to help children learn. Our second goal is in Reading. We use the DIBELS (Dynamic Indicator of Elementary Language Skills) to determine where children are and what the benchmarks should be in their reading and comprehension. Our third goal is in Math Computation. Not all students should learn all mathematical methods and using the best practices as well as differentiated instruction addresses their needs. We also use the NWEA assessment to monitor academic growth in Language Arts and Math.
In addition, Dorr focuses on Character traits with Respect and Responsibility being top priority. This helps children learn that the choices they make are theirs and helps them learn to be responsible citizens. The Dorr Team is dedicated to help children learn to their individual capacity.
